Meme #1 // Divorce Photography
I have decided to propogate two different memes. This one is more of an experimental meme that I am not sure how it is going to go down, so I figured I would do all the steps and if it works out it does, if not, I will have a more tangible backup.
About a month ago, I randomly came up with a joke that had to do with wedding photography. I was hired to photograph a wedding for a friend around mid-August, and I made a joke that “hey if they offer wedding photography, why not divorce photography”. Well, I did some research and someone else has had the idea too, but they haven’t created any sort of “meme” or advertisement for it. Gianni Fasolini (who has been a wedding photographer for about 25 years), came up with the same concept expressing, “People celebrate a marriage as a milestone in their lives, but a divorce is an important event too…” (http://www.neatorama.com/2008/11/08/divorce-photo-album/). I think the concept of divorce photography is a really funny pastiche on the culture of matrimony. We get ruffled into marriage as “it is the right thing to do” often times when advancing relationships, so just as Fasolini suggests, why not have photographs of an equally important event!
I would really like to start a whole little company up for Divorce Photography (and maybe that leads to a dating service of recent singles?). Anyways, I think it would be fun to do the whole 9 yards – website, business card, infomercial, etc. I think the implications as well as the project could be both meaningful and hilarious.
